Anxiety

We live in an uncertain and fearful time and almost everyone experiences anxiety in some area of their lives. Mostly it is entirely unnecessary, unhelpful and easily treated.

There are many common anxieties: shyness (or social phobia), fear of flying, panic attacks, fears about the future, worrying about your kids, your career or your relationships, a fear of vomiting, etc. One client of mine lived in fear of phone calls from her father (not the father himself, just phone calls from him). Sometimes people aren’t even really sure what it is they are anxious about, there’s just a pervasive sense of dread. Some anxieties are quite unusual or apparently irrational, some are more obvious. They are all very real to the sufferer however. Often there are physical symptoms, such as: tension, racing heart, sweating, trembling, nausea, chest pain, shortness of breath, stomach aches or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), or headaches; and obviously it feels horrible.

I love to help people sort out their anxieties. It is to me one of the most rewarding problems to solve. Often people have suffered for years with a massive impact on their quality of life. So when the anxiety is gone, and they feel calm and confident, it’s hugely liberating. The bigger the anxiety, and the more intrusive it is in your life, the greater the benefit of resolving it. I’ve helped clients to change dramatically in just a few sessions and the results can be extraordinary. You might experience a new sense of calm, and renewed energy and enthusiasm. Skin problems often visibly clear up, relationships improve and people will often look younger.

How long does it take to remove an anxiety? Usually between one and four sessions, although occasionally it can take longer.

You may be wondering if particular kinds of anxieties are more responsive to treatment than others. In my experience it really doesn’t matter what the object of the anxiety is. Neither does the intensity of the anxiety seem to effect the outcome. Some severe and apparently very complicated anxieties (for instance related to severe trauma) can often be treated surprisingly rapidly.
